WIND KNOCKS CRANE INTO 3 WORLD TRADE CENTER

The Real Deal reported that, on August 11 before 8:30 p.m., the crane operator attempted to pull in the line in anticipation of the bad weather that night when the wind moved the crane into the building, breaking a window. Although initial reports stated that a wrecking ball caused the damage, FDNY officials told Eyewitness News it was a weighted ball with a cable that was used that night to move construction materials. Both outlets reported that no pedestrians were injured and none of the damaged glass landed below.

The window was left in place and was expected to be replaced. A spokesperson for Tishman Construction told Eyewitness News that the site of the accident was contained and that safety inspectors and local authorities were reviewing what happened.

Fortunately, this crane accident resulted in no fatalities or injuries. As for damage to the building, preliminary reports suggest that it was minimal, in that only an isolated part of it will need replacement and repair.
